Hey Cobras!

It’s back on for our anniversary month! This week, we will be featuring quite a few iconic lines. Today, Rainbow Brite, for the 40th anniversary! Rainbow Brite was launched in 1983 by Hallmark Cards, with the first toys released in 1984. Created as part of Hallmark’s strategy to expand into multimedia, Rainbow Brite became an iconic 1980s franchise. The story centered on a girl named Wisp, who transforms a colourless world into Rainbow Land using the power of her Rainbow Belt. The toyline, produced by Mattel, featured colorful dolls of Rainbow Brite and her friends, the Color Kids, each associated with a different color. The franchise was supported by a popular animated TV series that ran from 1984 to 1986 and a feature film, Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer (1985).

The franchise enjoyed widespread popularity in the mid-1980s, becoming a beloved part of children’s entertainment, particularly for young girls. It was praised for its vibrant characters and positive themes of friendship and creativity. Although its popularity declined by the late 1980s, Rainbow Brite saw several revivals, including a rebooted animated series in 2014. Today, it remains a fondly remembered piece of 1980s nostalgia, alongside other iconic franchises of the era.
