It’s back on for our anniversary month! This week, we will be featuring quite a few iconic lines. Today, Tetris, for the 40th anniversary! Tetris was created by Alexey Pajitnov on June 6, 1984, while he was working at the Soviet Academy of Sciences in Moscow. The game, based on arranging falling tetrominoes to clear lines, quickly gained popularity within the Soviet Union and soon spread internationally. The global success of Tetris was solidified in 1989 when it was bundled with Nintendo’s Game Boy, making it a worldwide phenomenon.

Over the years, Tetris has been released on over 65 platforms and has sold more than 100 million copies on mobile devices alone, becoming one of the best-selling video games of all time. As Tetris marks its 40th anniversary in 2024, it remains an iconic and influential game, celebrated for its simple yet addictive gameplay that has captivated players for four decades.
