Hey Cobras!
This year is Batman’s 85th Anniversary! This week we will be featuring things from our Batman section in celebration, as well as playing the Batman Animated Series cartoon this Saturday!
Today, the Batmobiles!
The Batmobile first appeared as a red convertible in Detective Comics #48 (February 1941), based on the 1936 Cord. In the 1950s, it evolved into the “bubble dome” design, lasting until the early 1960s when iconic features like the bat-mask and fins were introduced. The 1960s brought a practical, streamlined two-seat coupé with advanced features. In the 1990s, Jean-Paul Valley’s Batmobile had wide fenders and a single-person cockpit, later replaced by a sleeker version when Bruce Wayne returned. The New 52 era saw continued evolution with updated technology. In the recent Batman & Robin series, a flight-capable Batmobile was introduced. The 2022 movie “The Batman” features a gritty, muscle car-inspired Batmobile, a heavily modified 1969 Dodge Charger.
