With all this craze over baby Yoda it’s only fair we talk about him. Yoda first appeared in the Empire Strikes Back in 1980. Yoda trains Luke for the fight against the Galactic Empire. Not much is known about Yoda, as George Lucas wanted his history to remain mostly a secret. His race and home world both remain a mystery. It’s known that Yoda played a part in the training of almost every Jedi Master in the galaxy, including in part Obi-Wan Kenobi’s training before Qui-Gon Jinn took over. In the Return of the Jedi Yoda passes away at the age of 900, which made him the oldest living character in the Star Wars universe.
In the original trilogy he is a puppet, and remained a puppet for quite some time, with the exception of a few walking scenes which were played by Deep Roy and Marwick Davis although neither were credited. Frank Oz voiced Yoda in most of the media around the franchise, there were a few exceptions. Oz also did the puppeteering for the most part, although had a extensive crew of talented puppeteers to assist him. In Attack of the Clones they brought in the CGI done by Rob Coleman. With some of the scenes requiring some extremely detailed work due to the close ups he had. To keep true to the feeling that you get when you see Yoda they designed the CGI to mimic that of the original puppet.
Master Yoda is one of those characters that it really doesn’t matter who you are or what kind of life you live, you know who he is.
