If you’re like me, you recognize R.O.B from Super Smash Brothers, but those lucky enough to have been around during his initial release will tell you that R.O.B was and is, one of the most unique gaming accessories of all time. Not only that, it was this Robotic Operating Buddy that served as the front-runner for Nintendo’s press release into the North American gaming industry with their Nintendo Entertainment System. While R.O.B was slowly discontinued due to his less-than-perfect functionality, it was his commercials and marketing with the NES that pushed Nintendo towards the immense success they received in the mid 80’s, and likely the rejuvenation of the gaming industry as a whole.
