Today I’d like to share a fun fact about one of my favourite droids!
One of the best bounty hunters in the galaxy, second only to Boba Fett, IG-88 also holds some WWII history on his head. Specifically, a Derwent jet-engine flame tube. This part was also used for background props in the Cantina, and in a life-sized gun turret on the Millenium Falcon. Airplane scrap material was cheap and available in bulk following the end of WWII, and production designer John Barry made good use of it on the sets of Star Wars.
